- thelonelywaterfallTwo selfies on a row! It's not like me! Is it narcissistic or is it inner confidence or is it perhaps a modern day art form? I was a selfie artist eight years ago! Yes I used to turn the phone towards me or took photos by the mirror as technology didn't allow for reverse screen photography then! Why did I start taking them? It was at a time when I had decided that I wanted to love myself; my face, my figure; I wanted to reassure myself that I too could look beautiful. To prove those who had put me down wrong; I will show them I thought. Not only am I the nerd who thought deeply about life and studied hard but no, I am also beautiful. I'm a woman. Recently, I met a beautiful artist and friend by chance in Regent's Park/London@joycejsdartist and she corrected my thought process on the issue further as over the years I had become unsure if selfies depicted me as being self centred. I was accused of this by someone I respected once! But my wise friend and extremely talented lady, Joyce, simply said, "well not all photographers are able to capture the self as the person in front of the camera intended. They have to really know who you are." I then thought back when I sat in front of amazingly talented photographers who took photos of me that I didn't like and yet people who loved me were always able to take great photos of me. I think we underestimate photography as art form. It isn't a matter of clicking or pressing a button. It's about capturing the self in that moment. Capturing an emotional state not visible but felt and who knows us better than our selves? The answer is no one. Here I am departing Seville on a speed train to Córdoba in order to fulfil a dream! I feel comfortable with an image depicting a make up free face sitting beside all I currently have, in terms of worldly possessions and feeling both apprehensive and excited on my journey. I am satisfied that this selfie depicts my current emotion. I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on the topic of selfies. 🙏🏼🙋🏽💕🌺 #selfiesunday#selfie #cordoba #me #art #artist #thoughts #adiossevilla #train #girlonthetrain#adventure #travelphotography #writersofinstagram #writersofinsta

- kams.h2oAn interesting topic indeed. In your case selfies are definitely an expression of self confidence ! What about galleries that only shows selfies ? Some of them shows an excessively self centered personality, other seem to be the expression of a great lack of self confidence or a constant need to be reassured!
- thelonelywaterfall@feelinsogood_83 😍Andrea, thank you so much for the compliment ☺️🌺🌸🙏🏼
- thelonelywaterfall@kams.h2o I do think it is a form of art that will be looked back upon in the future as a unique mass artistic movement! Freda for example was the queen of selfies and so was Rembrandt; even Van Gough took selfies with one ear cut off whilst undergoing severe depression! I am an impressionist style painter, or at least I used to be and I used to paint self portraits; they were effectively selfies but took longer to do. Selfies serve the same purpose but are more accessible to people who may not have the ability to paint or draw. They are an expression of the self. I guess you are right, there are selfies and there are selfies! I wonder which selfie would be considered the Mona Lisa of our time! It's all beautifully interesting indeed. I appreciate your thoughts greatly as ever dear👌🏽🙏🏼💕🌺
- lifes_a_beautiful_beachHello dear😘🙋👍👍🙌👏👏👏
Having created (in paint) self-portraits (on an occasional basis) since the 90's, and more precisely digital selfies (using small compact cameras and sometimes a larger High Definition one0 for the past few years, i consider myself a "selfie artist". I sometimes come across another such artist, and we each have our own way to approach this form of expression, or being... being truly oneself. As one intends. A rambler friend takes photos of herself in the reflection of shop windows... As Hanan writes so well, a selfie is a form of Art that will be better recognised in the future.
